Massy Ferguson, a four piece roots-rock band from Seattle, is embarking on their second visit to Australia, playing festivals, clubs and wineries.
In 2009 the band traveled to Australia guerrilla-style, spurred by radio airplay on RRR and PBS Melbourne as well as from independent DJ Colin Fielding (INR fm), who met the band at SXSW in Austin, TX and let them crash at his house in Kangaroo Ground during their tour.
The band is off the floor in 2012 and on to better stages, ranging from theApollo Bay Festival (April 20-22), to Weller's Winery (April 26) to the Gum Ball (April 27) and Cherry Bar in Melbourne (April 28).
Massy Ferguson was a featured artist at Seattle's 2011's Bumbershoot festival, one of the largest urban music festivals in the country, where the band became fast friends with Wagons due to mutual friends/contacts as well as allowing Wagons to use their practice space. In return, the Wagons camp was instrumental in getting MF onto The Gum Ball.
Last fall MF landed a slot in the prestigious Iceland Airwaves Festival in Reykjavik after winning the Seattle Weekly's 2010 REVERB festival Favorite Band poll. They regularly headline Seattle's most prominent stages, such as the Tractor Tavern - the seat of Seattle's roots-rock Americana scene and spawning ground for acts like the Fleet Foxes, Head and the Heart, and Brandi Carlisle. They've toured internationally (Germany, Holland, Costa Rica, Australia) on numerous occasions.
